I first met Valerie Lyons when she hired me as a Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor at Samaritan Village in 1998. I was new to the field of substance abuse treatment and under her guidance and supervision, I learned and flourished. In her role as Assistant Project Director of the Hunter College OASAS Work Study Project, Valerie continued to act as a mentor and helped me to develop skills as a fieldwork supervisor. I also served as corresponding secretary while Valerie was a co-chair of the vocational rehabilitation professional group AVRASA. In this capacity, Valerie assisted me in becoming an active advocate and leader in the larger rehabilitation counseling arena. In the 14 years I have known Valerie, I have sought her counsel numerous times and she has consistently provided essential support. As I look back on my career development, I am grateful for the influence and inspiration of Valerie Lyons. She is a gift to her friends, colleagues, and clients.William Jones: Interior Architect
Hi Valerie, Thank you so very much for sharing such inspiring words with the graduates. They really enjoyed your presentation. You are such an effective speaker and educator. Your delivery was engaging. This was definitely a teaching moment for everyone. Continue to inspire and teach because it has a positive impact. Again, my sincere thanks for your support to the Working Internship Network. All the best,Yvette
Valerie has been an inspiration to counselors in the field of rehabilitation, specifically me. She is dedicated and energetic, and continuously bringing new ideas to the table. Valerie is a go getter and she is a fantastic teacher. I have learned most of what I know about rehabilitation counseling from her expertise and judgment. She is always willing to share what she knows to better the field, the counselor and the purpose/message of what we do. I would recommend Valerie’s work 100 times over again. I was lucky to have the opportunity to learn from her, work with her and grow with her (as a person and as a professional).Michael Kross
